The Pasadena Civic Auditorium was the scene for the NAACP Image Awards 2014. All the biggest names in Hollywood gathered for the prestigious awards show. Funny man actor and comedian Kevin Hart was named Entertainer of the Year at the NAACP Image Awards 2014. Hart also picked up best comedy TV series for his show on BET “Real Husbands of Hollywood”. In a funny yet emotional speech, Kevin Hart said he was a “real mama’s boy” and dedicated his award to his mother, who recently passed away from cancer.
The movie “12 Years A Slave” was also a big winner of the night and racked up four awards including motion picture of the year at the NAACP Image Awards 2014.
Also at the NAACP Image Awards 2014, Forest Whitaker and David Oyelowo were honored for their roles in “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”. Veteran actress Angela Bassett won the lead actress prize for “Black Nativity.” Forest Whitaker was also honored with the NAACP Chairman’s Award.
ABC’s TV drama Series “Scandal” was a big winner and picked up three awards, including actress Kerry Washington for lead and creator Shonda Rhimes.
In a touching tribute to Nelson Mandela at the NAACP Image Awards, Oprah Winfrey gave a moving speech about meeting the great leader. Winfrey discussed the time when she first met Mandela, and how she wondered what she was going to say. “Why don’t you listen,” was the advice she was given. “What can I take to Nelson Mandela, I can’t take a candle,” she added. “So I built a school in his name.”
Music legend Stevie Wonder performed at the NAACP Image Awards 2014, and rocked the house in an amazing tribute to Mandela.
