Mekhi Phifer filed bankruptcy recently. The actor recently co-starred in the third season of the Showtime series ‘House of Lies’. Phifer also starred on the big screen this year, in the movie ‘Divergent’, based on the book series. Both roles put Phifer back on the map
Why Mekhi Phifer Filed Bankruptcy
Let’s look at how much the 8 mile star owes, that ultimately led to his bankruptcy filing. Mekhi Phifer allegedly owes back taxes in the amount of $1.2 million, unpaid child support in the amount of $4,500. The odd thing about bankruptcy is how much it costs. Phifer also owes $50,000. News Soure TMZ acquired court records that showed to Mekhi spends a monthly average of $11,600. The amount coming in is $7,500. That’s a monthly loss of $4,100.
It makes you wonder why Mekhi Phifer filed bankruptcy , after allowing things to accrue so much. Why didn’t he tap out sooner? Then again, a lot of stars are told their finances are handled, when in reality the person does anything aside from handling them. But if he was overspending on a monthly basis, Phifer likely knew he was bleeding financially.
Stand up comedian Kevin Hart has referred to Phifer as one of his close friends. In one of his stand up performances, Hart made a reference to being invited to a birthday party Phifer threw for his children at DisneyLand. Hart went on to say Phifer rented the DisneyLand park for the birthday party. While it may have been a joke for Hart’s set, it may have also been true.
The irony is Mekhi Phifer filed bankruptcy and is behind on child support. How does it make sense to rent an amusement park? To be fair, the alleged birthday extravaganza was a few years ago.
Also consider the $1.2 million isn’t that much. If Phifer was able to consume that much, chances are he’s also able to earn beyond the $1.2 million he owes in back taxes. We are taxed based on how much we earn. Are you surprised Mekhi Phifer filed Bankruptcy?
